On October 7, 2023, the conflict in the Gaza region experienced an unprecedented escalation when Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups launched a deadly attack on Israel. The attack killed 1,200 people. Over 200 hostages were seized and over 100 are still unaccounted for.
In response, Israel launched a devastating wave of attacks, airstrikes and ground operations inside Gaza that have killed more than 46,000 people, and as of March 2025, 48,405 Palestinians have been reported killed according to the official figures of the Gaza Health Ministry, with the list also including 166 journalists (From 158 of which were Palestinians), 120 academics and over 224 humanitarian aid workers, with 80% of dead Palestinians estimated to be civilians and 70% of the Palestinians killed in their own homes being women and children.
The widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure has had a rapid and catastrophic impact on Gaza and its 2.000.000 residents. About 90% of Gaza’s population has been displaced, most multiple times, and the entire population needs humanitarian assistance. Persistent Israeli restrictions on the flow of humanitarian aid and movement of humanitarian staff, including at borders, crossings and within Gaza, has made it extremely difficult for humanitarian organizations to respond to the needs of the population, with forced displacement orders continuing to undermine the humanitarian response by requiring people to flee to already overcrowded and often unsafe areas, overwhelming already strained resources like food, water, and medical care.
As of March 18, 2025, another ceasefire was broken when Israel launched surprised airstrikes on Gaza, killing 9 Palestinians in the process, with 3 more Palestinians (One of which was a child) getting killed by Israeli gunfire and drone strikes.
Last year, Detësto, the D-Beat band of which I play the drums, got to be part of this amazing split compilation release organized by two international Anarcho-Punk labels: Plastic Wound Records (Girona, Spain) and Sound of Chaos Records (Medan, Indonesia).
